Understanding Fatherhood for Dads and Partners

This live online event is designed for expectant fathers, partners and supporters.

This curriculum is designed for new fathers and partners to be able to:

• Develop a plan for connecting with their child during the pregnancy, including going to prenatal classes and doctor visits with Mom.

• Prepare their homes for the arrival of their baby with safety in mind, including a focus on safe sleep.

• Identify ways they can assist during labor, birth and the hospital stay.

• Recognize the emotions they may feel during the first few months of being a father and partner and know when to get help for depression.

• Gain confidence in their role as a father and supporter by learning specific ways to interact with their baby from birth and as they grow, as well as how to be supportive of breastfeeding.

• Use effective communication techniques with their partners both before and after the baby is born.

• Find resources and support for parenting.

• Practice self-reflection on their positive contribution to their child’s life.
